The series Embodiment illustrates a connection to the divine feminine, expressing an essence of regality and the energetic movement of flesh, breath, and sound current or mantra. Each piece is created by holding a specific mudra or meditative posture and using the body as a tool of expression, severely limiting the amount of control rendered by relinquishing the outcome to chance. This process allows for sequences of breath to be captured as the skin expands and contracts, becoming a coalescence of energy alchemized with paper. The muted tones aid in conjuring an image of ancient relics with dim gold, rust, and dusty sapphires, begging the viewer to recall a familiar archetype.
Inspired by the works of David Hammons, Elisabeth Walden, and Keltie Ferris, Embodiment is an example of using a familiar form and reimagining existence in a contemporary fashion.
